The OCR Entry Level Certificate in Using ICT provides newcomers to IT a practical introduction to the basics of computing from learning how to switch on a computer and use a mouse to exploring the internet.  It covers topics that include producing documents and posters, searching the internet for information and communicating information using ICT.  The three modules included are:

  • Displaying information using ICT
  • Using ICT to find information
  • Communicating information using ICT

The OCR Level 1 qualification for IT Users (New CLAiT) is a qualification designed to recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding of IT users everywhere, whether in employment, education or training.  It will equip learners with the basic range of transferable skills necessary to meet the demands of the modern home and office and will prepare learners for progression to further IT training.  The modules involved are

  • Database Software
  • Desktop Publishing Software
  • Using email
  • Using the internet
  • Presentation software
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Word Processing software

The ITQ can be done as a certificate or as a diploma.  The certificate covers 3 modules and the diploma covers 5 modules from the above list.  If you wish to do any of these modules individually the cost will be £40.00.

The ECDL course is an internationally recognised qualification for anyone who wishes to become fully competent in the use of computers and common applications.  It is designed specifically for those who already have some computer experience and wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to enhance their career prospects.  The topics taught are:

These qualifications are aimed at those candidates who have sufficient skills, underpinning knowledge and command of English to carry out the production of business documents without supervision.

It is suitable for those who are already employed in administration roles who wish to further develop their knowledge and expertise in this area. 

Both text and word production units require you to produce business documents from a variety of handwritten and typewritten draft material and recalled material to a standard that meets business document production requirements.

Medical Word Processing Level 2 (£50.00)

This qualification is designed to enable candidates to develop the necessary skills and techniques in order to produce a range of documents used in a medical environment.  Candidates will use the functions of a current word processing package, develop layout skills and create documents from instructions and notes incorporating medical terminology.  This unit is suitable for candidates who have knowledge of medical terminology, some basic knowledge of word processing and who are looking to further develop these skills.

Essential skills are the ability to read, write and speak English and use Maths at a level necessary to participate in society and working life.

FRCI offer a range of classes from Entry Level 1 to GCSE level in both English and Maths, these classes are kept small and personal so that individuals can get more out of their learning. 

There are a number of levels in Essential Skills:

Understandably, many adults are anxious about returning to education. Essential skills tasks are designed to be relevant and interesting. The essential skills qualifications aim to reward and motivate learners and improve their opportunities.

 

Health and Safety

Basic Manual Handling

There is a legal obligation for employers under the Health & Safety at Work Order 1978 to ensure that all employees are provided with a healthy and safe working environment.  FRCI delivers a course which addresses all these areas and imparts the knowledge of health and safety responsibilities to the employeed regarding manual handling in the workplace.

The course covers the following information:
  • Spinal anatomy and potential injuries due to poor manual handling.
  • The need for risk assessment - good practice and reduction of injury.
  • Identify the criteria required when making the risk assessment
  • Components of a risk assessment
  • Identify ways to reduce the risk invovled in manual handling
  • Demonstration of principles of safe lifting and practical experience of lifting safely.
Each successful participant will receive a certificate of attendance acknowledge by FRCI and Health and Safety Services, Portadown.  (This course has been submitted to NEBOSH for consideration and approval of their certication).
 
NUCO Four Day First Aid At Work
NUCO Three Day First Aid At Work

It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees. If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aider's, then this course will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel.

This comprehensive 3-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.  The course covers:

  • Resuscitation
  • Treatment and control of bleeding
  • Treatment of shock
  • Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Contents of first - aid boxes and their use
  • Purchasing first - aid supplies
  • Transport of casualties
  • Recognition of illness
  • Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Treatment of minor injuries
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Eye irrigation
  • Poisons
  • Simple record keeping
  • Personal hygiene in treating wounds: reference to Hep.B and A.I.D.S. with regard to first-aider

This course will give participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

All successful students will be issued with a new First Aid at Work Certificate, lasting for a period of 3 years.

 

 

NUCO One day Basic First Aid
First Aid for the Appointed Person
This new HSE approved qualification came into effect on the 1st October 2009, along with new guidance on assessing the needs of First Aid in your workplace.
 
The two half day course is for those who wish to become the first aid appointed person within their employment.  The course covers the following:
  • Asssessment of the situation
  • Basic hygiene in First Aid
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Resuscitation
  • Heart attacks, bleeding control, minor injuries, angina, choking, shock, seizures
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor and refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every three years.

Basic Food Hygiene
Level 2
This Level 2 Award in Food Safety Catering is for anyone working in a catering, manufacturing or retail setting where food is prepared, cooked and handled.
It will provide students with:
  • Firm grasp of the importance of food safety and knowledge of the systems, techniques and procedures involved
  • Understanding of how to control food safety risks (personal hygiene, food storage, cooking and handling)
  • Confidence and expertise to safely deliver quality food to customers
