BOOK-KEEPING SKILLS Level 1 (Computerised)

This is a high quality, nationally recognised qualification, which is endorsed by the Financial Services Skills Council, (the sector body for finance, accountancy and financial services), and which can also provide progression to qualifications with professional accounting bodies such as AAT and CIPFA.
You will have the opportunity to develop skills, gain knowledge and understanding, and demonstrate competence for employment, through a number of individual units which build up to a full Level 1 qualification. This will include the opportunity to develop skills using an employer-standard computerised accounts package.

 

The level 1 qualification is suitable for:


The OCR Level 1 Award in Book-keeping skills is for those who are new to book-keeping or who wish to refresh and update their skills, and who are either preparing for employment in book-keeping roles or already employed in such a role.
There are no specific entries requirements but you will need to have a reasonable standard of numeracy and literacy, and have a basic knowledge of using a computer.

 

The Units

The following units comprise the full Award:


RECORD ROUTINE BOOKKEEPING TRANSACTIONS USING A COMPUTERISED SYSTEM (2 CREDITS)
Provides learners with a clear understanding of the principles and procedures relating to maintaining the ledgers of a company within a computerised accounting package.
Provides learners with a clear understanding of the principles and procedures related to the processing of business transactions and the processing of bank reconciliation.


PREPARE AND RECORD SALES AND PURCHASE DOCUMENTS USING A COMPUTERISED SYSTEM (2 CREDITS)
Provides learners with a clear understanding of the principles and procedures relating to editing and maintaining the ledgers of a company within a computerised accounting package.
Provides learners with a clear understanding of the principles and procedures related to the creation of business documents.


ASSESSMENT for all Units takes the form of an OCR-set and marked assignment, and results are awarded either as a Pass or a Fail. A failed assignment can be retaken. Individual unit certificates will be available, but completion of all Units is required for the full Award.
